Being gamers in our household we were excited to get the opportunity to review the uDraw for the PS3. Having read a bit about it I could see there were games that could potentially hook me into playing the PS3 more as at the moment its just the Lego games we play together.
The black shiny and sleek looking tablet comes with a pen attached to it by a springy wire so you don’t have to worry about losing the stylus (especially if you have a toddler in the house like us!) the only thing I didn’t like was that it doesn’t come with batteries and I was too excited to play it and we had to go searching for AA’s out of another remote control to be able to start! But once that was resolved we were all set.
The games that came with the uDraw were ‘Instant Artist’ and ‘Pictionary’.
Starting with Pictionary, the games interface wasn’t what we had expected graphic wise for the PS3 and is quite simple looking but this could be an advantage to some people as it is very easy to navigate and makes it easy for a variety of ages to play together.
I like the fact that this well loved board game is now digital and you don’t have to worry about finding the box and making sure no pieces are missing as lets face it, over the years board games do reduce! (that’s not to say i don’t adore playing board games)
The game itself has different options within it and you can play in large teams, however for just Aaron and I to play we kind of just had to guess what each other were drawing but there wasn’t a direct option for this. We loved the face you could draw your own faces onto the team players making it very personalised but the let down for this was the game doesn’t save information on players and you have to manually select your players again each time.
I can say I loved Pictionary as i love drawing and Aaron enjoys it too but has to put up with me asking every night if we can play it! (i never get bored of art based games!)
The Instant Artist that comes with the tablet is awesome, you can create so many different pictures and if you head over to the website you can see galleries of drawings that people have uploaded and they are fantastic!
The uDraw is also available on all major consoles (Xbox, PS3 and Wii) so you have the option to suit you.
I think every household should have one and the Pictionary game makes a fantastic party game for all your friends and family, especially with Christmas coming up!
